2007 MMRA Points System Changes

The MMRA Competition Committee has voted to make only two minor changes to the 2007 MMRA points system.

First, all Touring Series races will award drivers a minimum of 31 points, regardless of where they finish.  The reason for this was to reduce the discrepancy between a local event, and Touring Series races.  The minimum points awarded to all competitors in local races with less than 10 cars has been 31 for years, while a bad finish at a Touring Series race with lots of cars could be under 20 points.  Now drivers will earn the same number of points for finishing last in a small local race or at the back of the field in a big Touring Series race.

Second, if a driver is caught cheating with illegal parts at a local race, and those parts are sent to MMRA with a report form (Exhibit F in all 2007 MMRA Rulebooks), the offending driver will have a score of 0 entered in their points that can not be replaced by a higher score later.  As such, being caught cheating with illegal parts - even at a local event, will effectively remove you from championship contention.

These minor changes improve a points system that already has proven it works.  Drivers are rewarded for their efforts, and everyone can compare their performance against racers from around the country simply by checking their standing on the MMRA website.
