TOUR RACE 9 - BIG COUNTRY SPEEDWAY - AUG. 19, 2006

Big Country
Speedway
Big  Country Speedway is located in the high mountains of Cheyenne, Wyoming.  The town has a rough and tumble history, and the races at Big Country continued that theme.  The fans in the stands were treated to an amazing show that they will be talking about for a long time to come.

In the Future Stars division, Dylan Presnell set fast time, while in the PRO Division, Lindsay Daniels earned the valuable bonus point for fast time.

Like the PRO Division the night before, the Future Stars division feature race got off to a rough start, as contact between Logan Ruffin and Dylan Presnell in turn one of the first lap sent Presnell sliding sideways.  Unfortunately, Tyler Herdman who had started fourth was unable to avoid Presnell, and the two made hard contact.  Herdman's car was finished for the night, but after being checked out by track crews, Presnell rejoined the field and managed to go on to win the event.  It was a gutsy performance considering the strong impact he and his car took on lap one.

The PRO Division race had the fans on their feet from start to finish.  Sixteen cars started the feature, and for the first several laps of the race, virtually the entire field remained double wide as an 8 car inversion kept the field bunched up.  Earlier in the weekend, Sarah-Jo Paquette had wondered aloud who would be charged with a Code of Conduct violation if two teammates fought in their pit.  In the feature, she spun and flipped her teammate Kevin Able.  To the amazement of the crowd - Kevin never even went to the pits after the flip, and simply restarted at the back of the field.  He went on to finish a strong third despite being upside down - and remained friends with Sarah-Jo.

Later in the race, Bill Gray did a complete 360 degree spin down the frontstretch with some help from J.D. Daniels - never losing a lap or bringing out a caution.  Not to be outdone, later in the race, J.D. performed the same feat.  Amazing!

The most talked about battle however, was for the win between Mike Wright and Rick Johnston.  After 50 laps of hard racing the finish was so close the track had to go back to the video replay for a frame-by-frame review.  This took a while, so our photo features both drivers waiting on the frontstretch for the final word of who won - in the end, it was Mike Wright who earned his second victory of the weekend.

In post race tech inspections, the #92 PRO Division car and the #01 Future Stars cars were disqualified for failing to meet the minimum ride height requirement.  All other cars passed all tech inspections which included weight and carburetors on Future Stars cars, and weight, bore, and compression on PRO Division cars.

Thanks to Randy Milan and his staff for providing a fine venue, and for running the raceday with military like precision.  Also, thanks go out to Elly Gray for her incredible job of sign-in and pit management.  MMRA's visit to Big Country Speedway was a great success and we look forward to returning someday to the scene of some of the most incredible racing of the year.
