| Highway 92 Raceway Park was a great
new adventure for MMRA as we ventured into the great west for a Touring
Series doubleheader. The scenery was sure different as vast farms, big
sky, and dry conditions prevailed. Track owner Lee Schwartzkopf and
manager Sandy Thompson and their staff were wonderful hosts and excited to
see our show come to their track.
During qualifying, fast times were set by Logan Ruffin in Future Stars
and Bill Gray. An inversion draw of 4 would mean these drivers would
still start near the front for the feature races.
| In the Future Stars event, top competitors from back east mixed well
with new racers from out west including Dillon Pointon and Andrew and
Austin Farley. At the checkered flag, Logan Ruffin made it a clean
sweep of the day by winning the feature event. |

In the PRO Division race, the field got off to a rough start as there
was a pileup in turn one of the first lap. Once again however, the
toughness of the Baby Grand cars were shown as all cars were able to
restart the race. Highway 92 is a rough, tight track and there
were several minor spins and cautions throughout the race. As the
field was under caution on lap 47, the most unusual incident of the
night occurred - the main track lights went out. Fortunately the
field was already at low speed under caution so no cars crashed.
This had not happened at the track before, so after a few more laps in
the darkness, the checkered flag was thrown and the victory lane photo
of Mike Wright depended on a flash bulb. |

Our hosts continued to show their hospitality by providing a "beer and
burgers" cookout for all the racers, and everyone started to plot strategy
for the next day's event back in Wyoming. Thanks to all the racers who
came out for our first major event in the west, and to Highway 92 Raceway
Park for a great time.
