| The beautiful new Shenandoah
Speedway played host to the MMRA Touring Series and the track produced some
of the best racing we have seen all year. Although car counts were
less than at earlier events this year, the racing was closer than ever with
all races going right down to the end. In the Future Stars division, new
faces popped up at the front of the pack as Kyle Baugh earned his first ever
MMRA Pole Position and Blake Isenberg scored his first ever MMRA Touring
Series victory. It was also great to see some new faces like Tyler
Hughes and Matt Glanden from the New York minicup group.
The Open Division proved that you don't need lots of cars to have a great
race. Fans were treated to some of the closest racing of the night as
Donald McIntosh, Ronnie Binkley, and Stephen Hershey traded positions and
paint at the front of the field. At the finish line after 40 laps, you
could have thrown a blanket over them.
In the Junior PRO Division, Jacob France earned the pole and the win.
He continues to gain experience and confidence in his car and will be a
force to be reckoned with in the PRO Division soon enough.
Finally, the PRO Division proved to be the best show of the night.
Traditional front runners were out in force, but there were also several
local racers including Jason Lutz, Hunter Pearce, Jeff Abbott, and Roger
Freeze who jumped right into the mix on the track. Robin Cohoon's
sponsor John Graziatti jumped into Robin's backup car and had a strong run
to 7th. In the end though, it was Lindsay Daniels and Chad Willis who
would settle the race between them in the last corner of the last lap.
At the stripe, it was Lindsay taking the win with most of the ladies in the
grandstand cheering.
One of the best stories of the weekend was a call we received from David
T. Miller who runs the local minicup racing program. He explained that
he had given his life to the Lord, and volunteered to help in any way he
could. His help proved to be invaluable as he provided tech area
equipment, a golf cart, and knowledge of the track operations. He
helped to manage pit area activities all day and made a tremendous positive
impact on the event. God bless you David T!
Thanks also to our racers for continuing to respect the sport by racing
within the rules. During the day our tech staff checked ride heights,
weight, roof heights, seat centerlines, vacuum leaks, carburetor bores, and
flame tested oil on various minicup cars. In Baby Grands, ride
heights, weights, rear end centers, carburetors, and cams were checked.
Only a few issues had to be corrected after pre-tech, and all cars in post
race tech were within specs. Thanks to our great tech staff this
weekend including Vic Johnson, Mardy Dunn, David T. Miller, and Zeke Gough.
They did an excellent job and were a key factor in the success of the
weekend.
The next Touring Series race takes us out to Nebraska for the first of a
doubleheader weekend. We expect to see lots of new faces as the
Western US based teams have a chance to score as many as 42 points in a
race. The season is winding down now and every point counts so we even
expect to see a few east coast teams in the mix. It will be exciting
to see some east vs. west action in a beautiful area of the country.
We'll see you there!
