2006 Qualifying Procedures

In Nextel Cup Racing, the starting grids are limited to 43 cars.  In ASA Late Model Series events, 26 cars take the green flag.  As MMRA Touring and Grand National events have grown, we have had to consider the question of how many cars should be allowed to start the feature race.

After discussion, the MMRA Competition Committee has voted to cap our starting grids at a maximum of 26 cars.  The starting grid will be determined as follows:

The top 20 fastest qualifiers will be locked into the feature event based on speed.  All other cars will compete in a qualifying race where the top four finishers will transfer into the feature event.  Finally, the last two cars to make the feature event will be provisional starters.  Provisional positions will be given first to anyone in the top 10 in points that didn't make the show, and next to the teams that traveled the farthest to make the race.
