| MMRA is excited to announce the formation of a new division in 2006 -
the Junior PRO Division. This new group will be for kids aged
12 to 16, racing in Baby Grand stockcars with restrictor plates. The
Junior PRO Division will help bridge the gap between minicup cars and the
high speeds of many of our PRO Division tracks. We believe this will
be a great way to help our up and coming racers develop their skills in the
safest environment possible. Here is a FAQ section on the new
division. 1. Who will be eligible?
New Junior PRO Division racers will be required to have a minimum of two
years racing experience at a level acceptable to MMRA. If someone
without racing experience comes to MMRA, we will recommend they start in the
Future Stars of Racing program first.
2. What will the rules be?
The rules and cars will be very similar to the regular PRO Division with
a few adjustments. The Junior PRO Division cars will be required to run a restrictor plate
issued by MMRA and the drivers will be required to use one-way Raceceiver
radios to stay in contact with race control. Finally, all Junior PRO
Division races will be on tracks less than 1/2 mile in length.
3. Can a racer compete in both the Junior PRO and regular PRO
Divisions?
Yes - as long as the age and experience requirements are met for both
divisions.
4. Can a racer compete in a minicup division and also the Junior
PRO Division?
Yes - as long as the age and experience requirements are met for both
divisions.
5. Will the Junior PRO Division get all the same benefits as
other MMRA divisions?
Yes - the first year, we expect this new division will not have as many
racers competing, but MMRA will back this program 100% and will provide all
benefits including the solid gold MMRA championship ring.
6. Will this division replace the Open Division?
No - the Open Division is for both kids and adults. The Junior PRO
Division is only for kids aged 12-16. Also, some kids may not want to
move up to a Baby Grand immediately and the Open Division will be a great
option for them. The Junior PRO Division will only be for the kids
that want to move up as quickly as possible.
7. Why did MMRA create another division?
A great example is the Music City Motorplex. Minicups race on a
flat 1/4 mile track and Baby Grands race on a huge 5/8 mile track at speeds
of 130 plus. When a young racer makes the jump from the Open Division
to the PRO Division at that track, he/she has to learn to shift gears,
handle double the weight, manage 5 times the horsepower, deal with drafting,
steer a larger car, and race safely at 130 mph - all at one time. By
creating the Junior PRO Division, we allow the young racers to learn the car
first on the short track, then learn the horsepower and speed later in the
regular PRO Division.
MMRA is also aware that kids are advancing faster and faster every year.
Currently, there are 14 year old racers competing in full blown ASA Late
Model Series cars. We want to be the place these racers look to as
they start their careers and offering this division will help us attract
them.
8. Where will the Junior PRO Division race?
At first, there will be a regular program operating in Nashville,
Tennessee. Then, later we expect other areas with strong PRO Division
car counts to develop a Junior PRO Division as well. The Junior PRO
Division will also be included at many of the 2006 Touring Series events and
at the East Grand National race.
9. How much will the cars cost?
They are just regular Baby Grand cars. Currently, Baby Grands has
some used cars for sale starting at $6,500 and there are always new and used
cars for sale on the
www.babygrandracing.com website.
10. How will a Junior PRO Division racer move up to the regular
PRO Division?
When they reach 14 years old, if they have proven their skills in the
Junior PRO Division, they will be allowed to move up.
11. This sounds great - How do I get started?
Please send an e-mail to MMRA so we can keep you "in the loop" as this
division gets started. Then, when 2006 membership forms are posted
late this year, be sure to get yours filled out and sent in right away.
12. I have other questions.
No problem - please send an e-mail to
mmra@MMRAracing.com and we will get
back to you.
