2005 Speedweeks Special - Touring Series Race 1

Every February, racers from across the country head to Florida for the exciting Speedweeks celebration and MMRA is no different.  This was our second year at Orlando Speedworld and we were blessed with great weather and lots of new faces.  This was the first year for our Future Stars and Open Divisions and close to 20 minicups made the trip, along with a great bunch of Baby Grand racers from as far away as Calgary, Alberta!

Thursday's qualifying races saw all 3 events go caution free - a great tribute to the skill of our competitors.  Friday's feature races weren't so lucky as all divisions experienced significant crashes which left 5 PRO Division teams on the sidelines for the Saturday races.  Amazingly, every minicup team returned to action Saturday.  Some, like local racer Seth Greco entered Saturday's race with no sleep, but a passion for the sport that is great to see.

For the competitors in the races, MMRA will be processing over $3,500 in cash purse payments which will be going out in the next couple days.  Also, all 6 race winners featured on the front page of this website will be receiving custom embroidered Hoosier Tire jackets commemorating their wins.  Finally, MMRA contingency sponsor Extreme Engine Systems has provided over $1,200 in gift certificates for all minicup competitors in the event.  These will be included with the checks from MMRA.

The track did a great job considering they had to handle close to 200 teams with only 4 workers and the track was a great place for the MMRA and INEX cars all week.

The road warriors that made the trip now have a leg up on the competition in the hunt for the 2005 MMRA championship but there are many more touring series races to come.  Also, points in regional qualifying events will start to factor into the points standings as local areas get underway in the next month or so.  The next Touring Series event is at Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee on March 19.  How bad have you got it?
