MMRA Touring Series race #3 started right where #2 left off. There
were tornadoes the day before, the day of the race there was a flash flood
warning, and the forecast was for heavy rains for 500 miles in all
directions. Just as we experienced at Riverview however, the rain
stopped by mid morning and the racing went on as planned. Even with
the "green" racetrack, it was a fast night as all three divisions set new
track records in qualifying - eclipsing marks that were set as far back as
1998. Here are the new recordholders and their times:Future Stars
Zach Coll
16.340 seconds
Open Division Joseph Meyer
15.252 seconds
PRO Division Tyler
Brown 13.402
seconds
Two of the most
discouraged teams leaving Riverview were the #97 Future Stars and #3 PRO
teams - they are both pictured above in victory lane at Anderson. It's
great to see teams persist through adversity and go on to achieve success.
MMRA is excited to say we achieved our goal with this race - we impressed
the track with a great car count, and have laid the foundation for a strong
program in 2005.
We are also glad to say that post-race tech inspections validated the
wins in all divisions. PRO Division points leader Bill Christie gave a
dominating performance that drew an engine protest. The process proved
to be valuable as both the protester and protestee were satisfied at the end
of the night.
Can our points leaders continue to pull away in the championship chase -
or will the standings tighten up? We'll find out July 10 at Star
Speedway in New Hampshire.
