| After a month off, the MMRA Touring Series got back on track
at the historic Rockford Speedway. This 1/4 mile bullring produced
perhaps the best Open Class race yet as 24 cars took the green flag for 50
challenging laps. Loose was fast at Rockford and the top cars seemed
ready to spin out in every corner. MMRA captured some great video
footage from the roof that will make for an entertaining show at the Grand
National Awards banquet in July. The Future Stars of Racing feature
produced another first time winner in the MMRA Touring Series as Travis
McCarty crossed the stripe first in his #63. In the Open Division Will
Kimmel became the first repeat winner in the Tour, narrowly beating fellow
Kentuckiana driver Chad Varner.
In post race tech, the "Cam Profile" pill was pulled and the top 3
finishers in both divisions delivered their engines to Tech Director Vic Johnson
for inspection. All cars were declared legal.
MMRA would like to thank both our traveling members and also the local
Central States racers who joined us for this event. Your participation
is helping to build the sport of minicup racing around the country.
Finally, in only two weeks, the MMRA Touring Series gets back on track at
the New River Valley Speedway in Virginia. This beautiful facility
loves minicups and is looking forward to developing a Future Stars class
next year. Lets help them get off the ground by putting on a great
show. This is also the last chance to run a touring series race before
the Lake Erie Grand National race so come join us for a great time.
