| The 2003 MMRA Touring Series was
again blessed with beautiful weather in Tennessee. It rained the day
before and the day after the event, but raceday was clear and sunny.
30 racers from Kentuckiana, Virginia, and Ohio gathered at the beautiful
Riverview Speedway to see what racing at Bristol Motor Speedway must be
like. Riverview Speedway has the steepest banking of any track in MMRA
and every driver on hand loved the rollercoaster ride. MMRA racers proved
they are the best minicup racers in the country by running both the Future
Stars of Racing and the Open Division feature without any crash-related
cautions. This despite cold temperatures at racetime (producing cold
tires) and a track that was completely oiled down by a prior racing
division. The MMRA staff would like to congratulate all our racers for
a fine job of driving and the "give and take" on the racetrack that also
earned the respect of the Riverview Speedway staff.
In the end, it was Will Kimmel triumphing in the Open Class and Trevor
Jones taking the Future Stars of Racing title. Both Will and Trevor
are first time winners in the 2003 Touring Series and showed they haven't
lost their touch from last season.
In post race tech, the "Carb Tech" pill was pulled and the top 3
finishers in each division had their carburetors inspected for compliance
with MMRA rules. Tech Director Vic Johnson reported that all cars were
legal.
MMRA would like to thank each and every racer that made the effort to
join us at this great event. We hope to see many of you at the next
Touring Series stop at Rockford Speedway in Illinois. Come on out and
